Resize a photo to passport size
US passports and visas want a 2×2 inch photo, 600×600 pixels for online forms. Most other countries use 35×45 mm. Pick the preset and crop to fill.
The presets produce 600×600 pixels for the US 2×2 inch format and 413×531 pixels for the 35×45 mm format at 300 dpi, which is what online applications expect. Framing rules still apply: the face should fill 50 to 70 percent of the height, eyes in the upper half, plain background. Use the crop tool first to frame the face, then resize here.
Many portals also cap the file at 50 to 240 KB. Run the result through the compress tool with a target size if yours does.
How to resize a photo to passport size
- Crop the face first. Use the crop tool with the 1:1 ratio for US photos, or 7:9 for 35×45 mm, so the head is framed correctly.
- Pick the passport preset. US 2×2 inch or 35×45 mm. Crop to fill keeps the proportions exact.
- Download. Then compress to the portal’s size limit if needed.
